The UCSB/UCLA Health Medical Assistance Program offered through a partnership between UCLA Health, UCLA Extension, and UCSB PaCE, combines the theory and practical experience necessary to prepare students to transition successfully into a career as a medical assistant.

Medical assistants play an essential role in providing health care. Some responsibilities include taking vital signs, administering medications, performing administrative tasks, and helping physicians care for patients.
The UCLA Medical Assistant Program (MAP), offered by UCSB PaCE through a partnership with UCLA Health and UCLA Extension, combines the theory and practical experience necessary to prepare students to transition successfully into a career as a medical assistant.

Instructors are working nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals working in the medical field. They maintain strong professional ties to respected organizations and are leading healthcare reform at UCLA Health.
Program Highlights
- For the 24-25 academic year, UCLA health has secured donor funding. Accepted students through UCSB PaCE will receive a full scholarship to cover the cost of the entire cost of the tuition.
- This program prepares students for the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) National Certified Medical Assistants (NCMA) exam.
- Curriculum is reviewed and approved by an advisory board comprised of practitioners in the field, industry leaders, UCLA physicians and nurses, and administrators from UCLA academic departments.
- The four quarter program includes 68 units of course work and 200 hours of clinical internship hours.
- A college degree is not required to enter the program.

After Graduation
Certification Exam
Course of study prepares students for the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) National Certified Medical Assistants (NCMA) exam. For information on the exam, visit the National Center for Competency Testing's website.
Career Opportunities
Upon completing the program at UCSB PaCE and passing the NCMA exam, students are encouraged to reach out to UCLA Health as they employ over 500 Medical Assistants. Pricing
For the 24-25 academic year, for accepted students into the program, we are able to cover the ENTIRE cost of the tuition. Student responsibility fees are not included and non-refundable.
