What does the Cleanroom Training program offer?

Cleanroom Technician

OPEN NOW! Classroom lectures will cover the semiconductor ecosystem and major processes. This course offers extensive hands-on processing (27 hours) in the CNSI cleanroom on the UCSB campus. Students will process two semiconductor wafers using multiple cleanroom processes, and will gain knowledge of proper documentation and statistical process control.  

This in-depth training will expose students to theoretical and practical approaches to fabrication in a cleanroom. No prior cleanroom experience necessary. It is intended for new entrants to the field, and/or those wanting to upskill their career in the semiconductor industry.

Microchip Fabrication I

This intensive one-week program is designed to equip both professionals and novices with essential skills in semiconductor manufacturing. Participants will engage in hands-on training and theoretical instruction, introducing advanced semiconductor fabrication processes, material handling, and quality control within a cleanroom environment.

The course covers key microfabrication techniques, including lithography, growth, etching, and metallization, and offers practical experience in characterizing nMOS devices. By the end of the course, participants will be prepared to contribute to industries such as semiconductors, aerospace, automotive, and heavy machinery with a strong foundation in microfabrication.

Introduction to Microchip Fabrication 

COMING SOON! Classroom lectures will cover the semiconductor ecosystem and processes. This course will introduce students to gowning and cleanroom work.  Students will gain knowledge of proper documentation and statistical process control.  

This course is intended for students with little or no cleanroom experience, and serves as a foundation for starting a career in fabrications. It includes 16 hours of lectures and hands-on processing in the CNSI cleanroom. NO PREREQUISITES NECESSARY.

What you'll learn...


Attention UCSB Students

Current UCSB matriculated students eligible for financial aid may need to maintain a minimum of 12 academic units to retain eligibility. Please note that professional units from TMP X111 do not count toward this minimum.

While TMP X111 units may count toward graduation requirements, they will not affect your overall GPA.

To earn degree or unit credit for courses taken through UCSB Professional and Continuing Education, students must order an official transcript from Extension upon course completion and have it sent to the UCSB Office of Admissions at admissions@sa.ucsb.edu.

For questions about this process, please contact the advising team for either the College of Letters and Science or the College of Engineering.

The program can be completed in as little as 3 quarters, but it is generally recommended to spread the coursework over two academic years.
