A year at UCSB is more than just a study abroad experience—it’s a journey of discovery. For Vincent Wargnier, this year was full of new experiences, each more exciting than the last.

"From living in one of the most beautiful cities in California to studying at a prestigious school with top-tier professors, my time at UCSB has been the most enriching experience I could have hoped for."

Two cultural differences stood out to Vincent. "First, the openness and friendliness here make it so easy to connect with people. Second, the strong presence of college sports is incredible—everyone goes to games, and there’s a real sense of pride in supporting your school’s team." These differences, instead of being challenges, became highlights of his experience.

Immersion in the local culture was key. "Meeting so many Californians really helped, but joining a club made the biggest impact. I joined the UCSB Wrestling Team, and it was the best way to get to know people and feel like part of the community."

The impact of UCSB on Vincent's personal growth was undeniable. "I started this journey alone and ended up surrounded by incredible people. Living in a new culture taught me adaptability, critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving. I created my own experience—one that changed my life and values forever."

And for his future? "The professional courses I took were incredibly practical, not just theoretical. Leadership and negotiation strategies are two skills I know I’ll carry with me for a long time."
For Vincent, UCSB wasn’t just a school—it was the start of something bigger, something that will shape the rest of his life.
